The last threads I saw on Lansing Illinois were about how it was "going down the tubes". But, that was from several years ago. How is it doing now? From the pics I see on Google Maps, it still looks good. Houses still look maintained, lawns are mowed, public places look clean. About the same as when I lived there in the 70's. The You Tube videos people post also look good. Am I missing something? I know that the crime rate has gone up but, unfortunately I can't think of too many places where it's gone down. What's up?

Not super familiar with everything in Lansing, but I know there are many people that still live there that enjoy life in Lansing and are proud of it. The schools aren't very good, but the town is once of the safer places in the south suburbs. That being said, Lansing is seeing an influx of poorer people moving into town, most of whom are black. It's a middle of the road type of town, but any major crime that happens there doesn't surprise me, just as a violent crime in Merrillville or even Griffith would not surprise me. Much of Lynwood is nicer than Lansing, IMO, lots of bigger nicer homes on the edges of Lynwood.

Lansing is similar to Merrillville, but Lansing's white population is slightly larger and Lansing has a greater sense of community than Merrillville.
