JKEB- I don't know where in the world you received your info about west of Peck Rd. in Geneva?!! I grew up there and no live in unincorporated Glen Ellyn (next door to unincorporated Wheaton). Mill Creek, west of Geneva and Elburn are just like any exurb (think Crystal Lake, McHenry, etc). Never in my life have I seen a confederate flag or redneck.
The Metra commute from Geneva is loooong- 1 hr. 20 minutes long or 1 hour express. From Wheaton it is 40 minutes express. None of these suburbs, except for Batavia, have a lot of diversity (if that is what you are looking for). The schools in all are fine. Taxes are hight in all except Batavia is cheaper. Wheaton/Glen Ellyn will be the same as Geneva. St. Charles has some pretty expensive mansions and very high taxes.
That being said, Geneva, St. Charles and BAtavia all have cool festivals during the year. All of the cities mentioned are very family oriented.
Wheaton= still very evangelical but there are other denominations and the south part is not as Wasp-y as the north side.
All cities = very Republican but there are some of us blues-ies out there!
Access to highways from Geneva/Batavia/St.Charles- at least 20 minutes to 88 or 90. Access to 88 or 355 from Wheaton/Glen Ellyn=about 20 seconds
