When my husband, cat and I moved back to the Chicago area many springs ago, we ended up in Forest Park. (Although we had a house.) It's one of the less expensive options you listed, and if you don't have kids, it is a great choice -- you have the easy access to downtown, plus all the access to Oak Park without Oak Park prices.

Where are you and your husband going to be working? That makes a huge difference.

Dumb question: Why would you want to move to the Chicagoland area? Are you oblivious to the problems of the area? If I were you, I'd stick to the Twin Cities, or consider Madison, WI, Des Moines, or Indy. Chicagoland? no thank you.

More trolling. Sure beats living in the hell hole known as Phoenix.

Phoenix is a great city. There's much more to it than what the typical tourist might see (resorts, strip malls and tract homes) but I won't go into that since it isn't the Phoenix forum. However, I'm not sure why this poster is always coming to this forum to bash the Chicago area. You aren't adding any value to the discussion, DS.
