I like them both, but Glenview is better imo. I really like how there's two downtowns in Glenview , the Glen, and downtown Glenview. Downtown Glenview is meh, but the Glen is great. I guess the main difference would be that Park Ridge is more dense. Both towns have much easier access to the city than most suburbs which is really convenient.

I prefer Park Ridge. It is more traditional, has better links to Metra and CTA, is generally easier to use a base for employment anywhere in the whole region and tends to attract a nicer range of people that appreciate the unique qualities it offers. Nothing really "wrong" with Glenview but the newer parts of town are so generic that, at certain times of the year, you feel you like me in some sprawl suburb of Dallas, Atlanta or Denver. Even the older parts of town are just sort of lacking in charm / cohesiveness. Lots of dated subdivisions that are harder for somebody like me to recommend...

Park Ridge. It just feels like more of a "complete town" and has a much larger/nicer downtown area. And you can pretty much walk across it.

Glenview's downtown is pretty much non-existent, and I have never thought of "The Glen" as another downtown area in Glenview... I think they tried to create that, but it's not the same. I can see the appeal of the "newness" in that area, though. And the rest of Glenview is generally quite nice. I just prefer Park Ridge.

As far as charm goes I think Park Ridge has to be one of the best suburbs in all of Illinois.

The air traffic noise is what I personally don't like about Park Ridge. Otherwise, it's a great town.

I haven't spent much time there since they reconfigured O'Hare's runways... In the past it was bad only in certain parts of town. Not sure if that has since changed, as I know a lot more people have been complaining about airplane noise since the change.

I prefer Park Ridge - the houses look look nicer, neighborhoods are more charming, the downtown area is great, it's just so darn expensive and taxes are ridiculous. And the air traffic in some areas can be a pain.

I don't know what your price point is, but I feel it's easier to find a more affordable home (300Ks + taxes) in Glenview than in Park Ridge, that's why most of my searching has taken me to Glenview.

And on that note, here's a secret: I recently discovered there is a small part of Niles that feeds into Maine South HS, close to downtown Park Ridge, nice-looking brick homes, more affordable than Park Ridge, which starts only a few blocks away, oh and lower taxes!
