I am looking at a few apartment communities within the Naperville/Aurora areas and well I am stuck.. I need some advice. I have never taken the Metra before and am hoping this will be as painless as possible. I am wondering if I should live within walking distance to the train or just drive to the station if I live elsewhere? I would be taking the train around 12-1PM and then coming home between 6-9PM. I am not sure if there are usually spaces to park at those times. Please any information would be helpful! Thanks.

You won't find parking at Naperville or Aurora Metra stations at midday. Lots are full by 7:00 or 7:30am and stay pretty full till 5pm.

There are some fairly nice apartments just north of the Rte 59 Metra parking lot.

Well, if you havent settled on a place, check out Railway Plaza or Bristol Station in Naperville, immediately west of Rt. 59 on North Aurora Rd. Theyre both pretty new and very nice places to live. We lived at Railway Plaza for a year and loved it very much... direct access to Metra, a short 10 minute drive to downtown Naperville, every kind of shopping and dining that you want, great schools, low crime, tons of festivities.

Are they building more transit oriented developments in those two cities? With the parking crunch it would seem like a VERY good idea. Especially with gas prices going up. They said on World News Tonight to expect $4 a gallon within 6 weeks! whoa!

I would much prefer to just walk to Metra than bother with driving, parking and then walking to the station through a huge parking lot.

Are there nice newer developments near the stations? Is there a demand to walk? Or are they more run down and people don't associate living near a metra station way out west a good thing?

Actually there are designated daily parking spots (indicated by yellow lines) that are ONLY available after 9 a.m. so you may not have a problem. I work from home, but when I head into the city after 9 I have no problem parking. We live a mile from the Rt. 59 station.

Whenever I take the metra into the city i always see these new condos built right next to the tracks. I definitely think this is a new trend (though I'm not sure I could stand the noise from the freight trains)
