I am planning to get on the Metra Electric to get to Chicago. What is the best of station/area to leave my car. It's a convertible and I am kind of paranoid so... Thanks!!

There isn't really any Metra Electric station or parking lot that's unsafe - even if walking around a few of the neighborhoods can be. There's a Metra police and trouble makers don't really hang around commuter-centric train stations. Remove all your valuables (like an iPod or GPS device) from sight and you'll be fine. I always do that unless I'm in the middle of nowhere, though.

I suppose the best Metra Electric station to leave your car is whatever station you are coming from.

I don't really understand the basis for your question. Are you coming from a house in Harvey and looking for a safer location to park your car or something? Wouldn't your car ALREADY be parked in Harvey then? If you're already coming from a rough neighborhood and heading to Chicago, the station is more safe than where you're already parked. Seriously, it is. Are you coming from downstate? The University Park Metra station (the first one on the line) is extremely safe.

I am coming from north east of Indiana. I figured I will take the train into chicago and spend the day there instead of paying $40 for one day of parking in the city. Distance wise, it makes sense parking towards the south side, another option is to drive an extra 20 mins take a train from the Frankfort area; but the train ride will be longer.

Yeah, that makes no sense to drive out to Frankfort. But neither does the Metra Electric, really. Are you aware of the South Shore line? It goes all the way out to Michigan City, IN.

If you want to take Metra, try the Flossmoor station. It is close to I-80 and it doubles as a train station and a restaurant-brewery.

Tons of white collar workers ride the Metra Electric every day. These are the main people who use it.. A lot of students use it regularly, too. Metra Electric isn't unsafe at all.

Oh, and BTW: Not only is Flossmoor Station close to 1-80 and doubles as a train station and restaurant-brewery but Flossmoor is an affluent area unconcerned with your convertible too. I'm one of the poorest people living within walking distance of Flossmoor Station and I have no plans of breaking into your convertible. I mean, I'm sure it's nice and all. But we just have no interest in it here in Flossmoor. Sorry!
