Does anyone know where I can buy those big, crunchy sugar waffles, dusted with powdered sugar, that you can usually find at fairgrounds or beaches. Any location between Joliet, IL and Racine, WI would be okay -- I'm in the north burbs. I've googled sugar waffles, but just keep getting returns of Belgian waffles, etc. There must be a bakery somewhere in Chicagoland who makes fair-type sugar waffles. I've tried making them myself with timbale irons, but mine don't compare with those I've purchased. Please help.

I have been to many fairs and carnivals and I am from Illinois and I have never heard of a Sugar Waffle.
Are you talking about the Funnel Cakes, Elephant Ears or Fry Bread perhaps?

How to Make Carnival Waffles | eHow

They are Waffle Cones basically, here is one recipe for them.

If you are looking for Fair Food, do a search for that, you will find numerous recipes for Fair Food.

Here is an image of a sugar waffle:

They use the same batter as a funnel cake, but are made with timbale or rosette irons. I don't want to make them -- I have lots of recipes for them -- I no longer have the irons. I'd just like to be able to buy a couple every now and then.

Oh, look for Carnivals around the area or a bakery who might sell them, otherwise I have no idea.
I am a Fair Food lover and stumbled across a smaller Carnival over the weekend, quite a treat for us.
