If the "Show You Care Kane Public Question” is approved on March 18th a new taxing body will be created and our property taxes will increase by as much as $13 Million!

  • Kane County property taxes are already too high with Illinois' being the 2nd highest in the nation
  • Higher property taxes force Seniors out of their homes
  • Higher property taxes cause higher rents
  • We don't need and definitely cannot afford another taxing body
  • There's always a "worthy cause" with a "good reason" to take our hard earned money--when will it stop?
  • The increase will be double taxation since the State and other entities already provide funding
  • Forced donation through government taxation isn't charity!
  • A little here, a little there--where does it end?

We all care about those less fortunate than ourselves. That is why Americans are the most generous people in the world. But do we really need yet another paid board of unelected bureaucrats redistributing our money where they think it should go? And why was the petition for this tax increase circulated by a private company who will directly benefit, when this private company already receives a total of over $22 million in service fees from the State of Illinois, contributions, and grants. Apparently they want even more money from Kane County taxpayers by raising our already burdensome property taxes.

Following is the text of the referendum we are asking you to vote "NO" on:

Shall Kane County levy an annual tax not to exceed 0.1% upon the equalized assessed value of all taxable property in the county for the purposes of providing facilities or services for the benefit of its residents who are intellectually disabled or under a developmental disability and who are not eligible to participate in any program provided under Article 14 of the School Code,105 ILCS 5/14-1.01 et seq., including contracting for those facilities or services with any privately or publicly operated entity that provides those facilities or services either in or out of the county?

It's not that the work isn't admirable, but this private company already receives millions of dollars through our state taxes andit should be our choice to give our money to whomever we choose to, not the government's.
