My job is probably moving me to Skokie next summer. I want a short commute... Park Ridge looks like a nice town... how's the airport noise? Thank you!

The noise can be bad especially towards Touhy. It's amazing the difference if your under a traffic pattern or not. I would definitely recommend "hanging out" in prospective areas, to determine how bad it gets. Most of the older homes there are well built brick, and generally isn't disturbing (noise) inside.

As to the short commute....most of the east/west roads between Skokie/ PR are slow. At best, I would say 20- 30 mins., rush hour could be 45-1hr. Besides rush hour, you would also have to consider the airport traffic delays in certain areas.

Cool Not Bad @ All!!!!

I'm from the beautiful city. The noise was never a problem. However, if you pick a home there near Chicago or P.r. , there could be some... but a good choice though. It has a nice downtown and good schools, and itz safe. Home prices are getting high, and so are the taxes.

Well, the downward spiral in PR home prices has begun due to the new runway. I looked at a house last weekend that is currently listed at $399K (3 bed 1.1 bath.) It was on the market last fall for $599K. It is several blocks south of Belle Plaine, which gets most of the noise. However, we were in the backyard for all of 10 minutes and 3 planes few in low and loud. I don;t think it is something I could ever get used to.

Why not Evanston, or Morton Grove or Wilmette instead?? Heck, even Skokie around Lorel Park.

Go with Wilmette or Skokie. The plane noise isn't worth it, especially when O'Hare expands. FYI, that will happen.
