My husband is considering a job at the nuclear power plants in either Braceville or Morris. This is way far out for us and I have started to look at where we would live. Any suggestions? We are in our 30's and just starting our family. We would ideally like a house under $300K. I'm looking for good school districts. I will definitely miss the walkability we currently enjoy, as I love towns like La Grange, Elmhurst, Oak Park. Obviously, I know I won't get that further out, but that is what I love about where we currently are. I don't even know where to start our search!

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I don't know anything about the southwest suburbs!

Once upon a time I had a pal that worked for ComEd's nuclear operations division. He did shift work, almost like a fire fighter or air traffic controller, and with the odd schedule he was able to justify a very very long commute (from north of Gurnee to Morris...) as it only happened 3 or 4 times a week... Of course he had a hybrid and fuel was still costly, but it worked for him...

Plainfield probably makes the most sense if you still want some semblance of a suburb ...

If you are still looking for that suburban charm check out Plainfield like chet said. Maybe even look into Joliet if you want a big suburb feel. I would also say maybe check out Yorkville/Oswego area they have a nice small suburb feel. Morris has a nice little downtown but didn't really appeal to me, Minooka is right there too.
