I accepted a job in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and I have minimal knowledge of this area. I will be working in Barrigton, Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village. I was wondering which surrounding suburb is the best place to live. I have heard Highland Park(Risky Business Fame) is superb but would it be too difficult of a commute? Are there homes in Highland Park for around $675,000? I checked out a condominium in downtown Arlington Heights for 400grand which did not really impress me. The dowtown of Arlington Heights was very attractive though. Is the traffic in the Northwest Suburbs as bad as it is rumored to be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Traffic at rush hour is bad, just like around any city. Arlington hts is a good location and town, as is Barrington. You might also check on Palatine. It sounds like you will not have to deal with the toll ways or major hi-ways,you can work around them. North Shore is very nice too, but your commute will be much longer, those other burbs mentioned are much closer to your work and they all have metra trains to the city when needed. Dont worry about that one condo that did not impress, in this saturated market, something else will strike you. Good luck with your move and welcome.
