Maybe I'm crazy but we are researching a move to Illinois sometime next year. I'm not completely unfamiliar with Illinois. I grew up in Rockford and I still have a lot of family there. (One of the reasons we may move.)
I have some concerns/questions.
-Seems to be a shortage of Technical jobs. I'm a system admin with a 10 year back ground in computers. When I do a search for jobs in Illinois I find lots of tech jobs in Chicago and that's it. I'm not excited about commuting into Chicago every day.
-I think with anyone with very low property tax moving to a state with high property tax it's a concern of ours. Is there a web site to compare property tax rates? Do you pay a lump sum every year is it something that is paid out of an escrow account?
- My wife is a 11 teacher with a Bachelors and ESL certification. Any teachers here? What are the chances the school districts will honor her time in service etc? We have family that teaches in the high school system but no one in the K12 area. Any information would be great.
- Any Arizona transplants here I would like to hear how to transition went. Any shockers? No I'm not talking about have a winning football team. Arizona Cardinals is actually a pop Warner team with a awesome stadium.
Some may ask why would want to move. I never understood why so many people move to Arizona to retire. I mean 120 degrees can kill eldery people just as much as the wind chill up north. I'd like to have my kids play outside on occasion. Kids burn there hands on everything out here? Or when the bottom of your shoes melt walking to my car? I could go on and on.

we lived in IL near Springfield and moved to AZ i loved AZ we just moved back to IL and i hate it. my husband made about 80,000 in AZ and now we will be lucky to bring in 35,000. i cant find a job and child care for our three children just after school is about $200 a week. the few places that i have applied i would bring home about 250 a week. so all i make would go to child care. We used almost all our savings to make the move. We would go back if we could afford it. i doubt that your wife will get what she deserves in pay they usually hire inexperienced teachers so they don't have to pay them as much. hope you make the right decision.
