It is in many ways now, and we take it for granted. Things like insulation, double-pane windows, programmable thermostats, and high-efficiency furnaces are standard in new homes today, but didn't exist 75 years ago. We just chalk it up to "advanced technology".

You forgot indoor plumbing.

The Concrete City

"Nanticoke, Pa
The Concrete City was built by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Coal Company back in 1911. It was left abandoned by the same company in 1924. There were 22 2-story homes that faced a courtyard with complete with a wading pool, tennis courts, playground, baseball field and a small pavilion. It is believed to be the first example of modern tract housing. Located in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, about 300 yards east of Middle Road between Lower Askam and the Hanover section of Nanticoke (there is a historical marker there on the side of the road). About 9 miles north of Glen Lyon. Concrete City opened in 1913 as housing for key employees and mine supervisors of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Company, Coal division who worked at the Truesdale Colliery. Each home had seven rooms and rent was $8.00/ month with concrete outhouses built behind each house."

This thread is full of fail.

Propaganda doesn't help make a home more efficient.

WTF are you talking about? Your comment doesn't even make sense in any rational manner.

The earth is currently in a ten year cooling phase, which explains Al's preference for calling it Climate Change. I guess you can't argue with that? can you? 25 years ago these so-called environmentalist were talking about the Hudson River freezing over. The fact of it is, that good intentioned environmentalist have allowed their message and organizations to be taken over by anti-capitalists, which could care less about the environment. It is a proven fact, that the US operates the cleanest and most modern methods for extracting oil from the earth. However, you don't hear Greenpeace and such raising a big stink about off-shore oil fields in Venezuela or Cuba.

With that said....Who doesn't want a cleaner environment and more efficient and safe energy sources. But to doom the American economy based on bull crap theories would be catastrophic. And its not a few outliers of scientist who don't buy into Climate change..It's about 50% of all scientists.

I would highly recommend a builder who builds around the St. Charles area. Check out his website and you'll see what I'm talking about!

I have recently met an architect that said he specializes in green design and has a list of green builders, contractors, waste haulers etc. They are JB Architecture in Sugar Grove. I think you can find them by checking out the sugar grove chamber website directory.

I'm calling B.S. on this. It's probably closer to 90/10 in favor of human-caused global climate change.

Let's keep this thread about green building, though. Attacking the concept is not helping the original poster find what he is looking for.
