northern illinois alone has over 550 miles of interconnected bike paths. there are state parks everywhere. some of the most beautiful beachs in the country are a short drive away in michigan. indiana dunes national lakeshore is a 45 minute drive. chicagos own lakeshore has 26 miles of public parkland from end to end. forest preserves are all over the suburbs. no, its not mountain ranges, but we take full advantage of what weve got. i dont know where its written you need dramatic changes in elevation to enjoy outdoor recreation.

For outdoor recreation this is a triathlete's paradise. Flat land great for cycling, running and plenty of lakes for swimming. There is an event just about every weekend!
