Hello

Please help me out.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Currently, I live in Tampa, Florida and 4 months from now I have to move to Chicago IL cuz I got admitted at Depaul University for a master degree.
it's going to be me and my wife. So, I would like to live in gated Apartment Complex. However, the shorter commutes the better but I don't mind to live 25 minutes away from Chicago's downtwon as long as it's safe, quiet, cheaper, and close from everything. The max i can pay is $1200 which includes the utilities and everything.

I'm looking for an appartment that has all of the following:

Central AC
Furnished apartment but it's not a deal breaker.
Parking garage or private parking spot.
Safe neighborhood
Gated community it's not a deal breaker. as long as it's located in a really Safe area.
Close from coffe shops, fitness center...tec

I have one question:
Is there any good place at any of Chicago Suburbs that you'd recommend for me? and Why would you recommend it?

Thanks,

I seriously doubt you'll find a gated apartment complex 25 minutes from DePaul. Which campus will you be at? You should be posting in the suburbs forum.

Gated apartment complexes are not part of the scene in Illinois. The whole fear thing that is big in FL due to the sorts of open violence that is practically gloried by the media down there is not a serious concern for most people in Illinois...

You could easily get a very nice apartment well within your budget in the west loop, the south loop, parts of Lincoln Park or Lakeview. You'd have nearly no concerns about safety and cleanliness.

There is no good reason for someone in your situation to give much thought to living in the suburbs unless you have a school age child and want an easier path to safer / better run school than the highly variable offerings of CPS...

you have plenty to choose from in that price range.. Maybe you are thinking Chicago is full of crime.. well, it is in certain spots.. but I've lived all over the city.. lincoln park where DePaul is, Wrigleyville, St. Bens/Ravenswood.. it is a very fun vibe and if you give up the chance to experience city life in this vibrant area I think you'll regret it (by going to the burbs).. found this site that lists rentals.. my last place was 3 blocks from Wrigley.. nothing like sitting on your deck hearing the roar of the crowd. Have fun shopping

oh, and when you say gated.. I think of courtyard apartments that have gates.. but I always steered clear of courtyard apts because I didn't like the idea of me as a single chick walking down a dark courtyard at night.. forget the gated thing.

I think you want to stay in the City not the suburbs. And we don't have gated communities here. I understand why they may exist in Central and South America, but they're not needed here.

The entire residential portion of Rosemont is gated. Why that is needed is beyond me, but they have so much revenue coming in from all the hotels there I guess they can afford it.

We'll switch roles here, i'd actually suggest the Oakbrook-ish area. Lots of large pseudo resort like apartment complexes out there. Not so much gated but isolated and safe. OP doesn't sound like a city living candidate.

I wouldn't think OP would want to deal with the commute to get to DePaul from Oakbrook
