I am going to be moving to the chicago land area to look for work and also to just get a taste of the big city life. I will be coming alone and need to find a cheap extended stay motel no more than 25-30 miles from the city. The closer the better though. I dont need anything super nice. Just a clean bed and a lil fridge and microwave. I would like to find something under 175-200 a week. I dont wanna stay in a real rough area though. I am looking to stay 2-4 weeks and then depending upon if I find work, stay in the area or just leave and come back to Northern WI.

Also, how is the job market? I am a good landscaper and have experiance in construction. I do not have any kind of degree so I am looking for just general labor.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate any and all info or tips. Thanks again
--Joe

Look at rooms for rent on Criagslist. You can also look into Extended Stay America.
Extended Stay Hotels

Some of the rooms in the burbs are around $30 a night.

Even in Hillside the monthly rate is still closer to $40/night.

Lombard and Lisle are quieter options.

None of those have any options for public transit. For that you'd prop ably find see options not too far from Midway airport, but that will run about $300/mo more or a whopping $1200-1500!!!

My wife and I stayed in a nice condo for 1 week in the South Loop for about $75 a night. It was a nice alternative to a hotel. Google vacation rentals in Chicago and some property owners that can't rent their place, have converted it to a short-term rental for out of town folks. Good luck!

Yeah, mostly a bunch of scams and switches out there, saying $16 per night, and then it's $300/week. The yellow pages is better than the Internet, a lot of cheaper hotels/motels aren't on the Internet. It's a waste of time looking there, in my opinion.

Your best deals on extended stay hotels in Chicagoland are through Priceline/ Hotwire in the Oak Brook - Lombard areas. There are two properties, one on Pasquinelli Road and another on e=Technology Rd. that come up for $25-35 depending on the time of week. YMMV.
