Considering relocating to Barrington but would like to know how long it would take to get to downtown Chicago for the sites and scenes.

Good traffic? 45 minutes to an hour. Bad traffic? 1.5 to 2 hours.

In over 20 years it has never taken me 2 hrs to go downtown. You must have tried during a blizzard or typhoon or something. If no rush hr (or accidents), its under or around 45 minutes as Steve said--If bad weather, pack your lunch or take the train (easier way to go)

LOL

Youve got me confused... you say about 45 mins in good traffic, which is waht I said. But are you saying it took longer than 2 hours to get downtown in bad weather? Are you also saying its easier to take the train in bad weather because you can expect 2 hours? Heck, Ive left on Rt. 88 (about directly south of Barrington) from Winfield Rd exit and it took me a little over 2 hours to get to the United Center on Damen.

Yep!

Lived in Barrington basically all my life..... to get to Lincoln Park (DePaul) it would sometimes take me only 40 minutes if I was flying with absolutely no traffic! I think my record is 35, lol.... but that was once or twice. 45-50 is defintely the norm with no traffic.

My cousins (from Plymouth/Canton, Michigan) once stayed in the Schaumburg area for Saturday sightseeing in Chicago and said "it took us hours to get downtown." What, did they drive in circles around O'Hare without a map?

Honestly though, I wouldn't want to rock Barrington to the Loop everyday.

If you drive to downtown chicago from barrington, instead of taking the northwest metra line, for work, id say you are a nut, hands down.

It takes about 65 minutes if you take the train (could be shorter depending on if it skips a lot of stops). It will probably be about 1.5 hours be car but I'm not sure.

No bob,not that long. And its not that long on the train unless you pick one that stops at every station. They have express runs that stop only once or twice,,50 minutes to the city..DONT drive in rush hour when you have an option of public trans. And if you must drive,an accident PLUS rush hour could be a real bummer!!!
