I've only been in Chicago for 3 years, but I've never owned a car since I've been here. Of course due to public transportation, its been pretty easy for me to get around. Anyway, I'm looking into moving into the River Grove area. I found an awesome apartment. Its a few miles away from Grand Ave and Harlem Ave. Anyway, will it be possible for me to get around over there? I know Chicago buses dont run that far west. I've looked into Pace, but not that informed about it.

Default It can be done...

I know folks that live much further west than Harlem that get by without a car. I think some CTA routes run west to First Ave/ River Rd...

Depending on how much time you can tolerate on a bus / waiting for one you ought to be able to get by w/o a car. Life would be easier with one , especially in bad weather, but it is not like moving to someplace with no sidewalks or walkable grocery stores.

I finally found more Pace info. It runs every hour until 7pm so I can take that to the Chi buses and go into the city that way. YAY!!

River Grove is also the transfer point between Metra-Milwaukee West and North Central Service. This gives you access to places like Schaumburg, Elgin and (weekdays) Wheeling and Vernon Hills.
