Daughter's 2014 SRX threw a P0021 code the other day.
P0021 == Intake Camshaft Position Timing is Over-Advanced (Bank 2).
Occurred while sitting in traffic and inching along. What she described was effectively a rough idle when the Check Engine light (amber) lit up. Given the code, it makes sense.
After doing some searching, the most typical reason for the issue is either low or dirty oil or a failure of the variable valve timing(VVT) solenoid. Oil isn't the issue. Although it is a used car (purchased with ~ 60K miles); I changed it when received as well as two other times. Now has ~70K miles.
Looking to replace all 4 VVTs; intake and exhaust for both cams.
You know the drill; no room and can't get there.
The intake side looks to be a straight shot if I remove the cold air filter box and the top radiator hose. The exhaust side is blocked by a large/heavy duty bracket. One end of the bracket is bolted across the front (passenger side) of the engine. The other side of the bracket is fitted into what looks like a rubber damping sleeve that is enclosed in a heavy duty bracket mounted to the top of the inner fender. Think of it like an engine mount.
Looking for a video or some advice on how to move that "engine mount" bracket out of the way so I can change out the VVTs. Any advice or known shade tree mechanic videos?
