so this year im talking about is a 2006. I plan on adding a front and rear diff on a 1500 chevy. 4x4.
it is essentially going to be my offroad/camp truck. got stuck a few times due to not having a locker
so def need one since I hit 4x4 roads in order to reach my camping spots away from peeps.

or am I better off getting a 2500 or f250/350 with beefier steering stuff and adding lockers on those

I plan on getting either a 4in or 6in lift with 35in or 37in tires. general grabbers AT2 with a slide in camper in the bed of the truck with a winch

Should handle a locker in the rear. I think there might have been some special edition that had a front eaton locker, not sure. Depends on what the IFS is, whether it'll grenade or not. Might just want to put a limited slip up there and use the old brake technique.

Yes, can handle.

If you got limited funds, I would go for a winch before adding lockers. I would leave the front alone and just get the rear.

How heavy is the camper?

What gear ration you have? Going bigger tire it would be suggested a re-gear, depending what you have now, but with a 35" tire, you should be fine. Unless for looks or your are doing specific like deep mud or need clearance, no need for the 35".

It may have G80 locker already. Check the RPO code found in the glovebox. I'm not sure I'd want to go to 37" on a 1/2 ton IFS, but that's just me.

I drive in a lot of snotty stuff out here, and frankly the locker has only come into use when I was towing a boat up a wet boat ramp and my tires were balding- that was a 2016 1500. Currently I have a 2016 2500 Chevy, 8' bed and I was all over rural MT near the Canadian border on rough BLM and gas well roads- steep drainages, coulees etc in the mud, then snow, then mud again. 33" ST/Maxx tires tires and not once did my locker engage.

In fact- I can't think of anytime I really needed a locker except for my tractor when I was plowing

With 37" tires would be looking at 3/4 and 1-tons with HD solid front axles OP

Imo
You’ll eventually break the IFS with 37s. Especially in off camber and throttle position. Not to mention tie rods, ball joints, unit hubs will need servicing more often. Big tires tend to wear parts faster.

Tall tires will require a lift AND most likely re-gearing to maybe 4:10/4:56 gears. Usually 1/2 tons are 3:55/3:73 geared from the factory. Lifting a truck also raises the center of gravity and adding a camper does that even more so AND makes it top heavy.
You’ll need
Tires (250/300 )x4
Lift kit (4/5k installed)
Wheels (600/1200+)
Gears (1000 per axle) x2
Winch you’ll need a big one 12/16k) about 1400 bucks
Winch mount (800/1200)

Why do you feel you need 37s to go off road? I have 265 75 16 on my f250 and I have no issues off road. Truck has a LS rear and I just put AT tires and a winch. I’ve never had the need for anything larger than a 285/75/16 size tire
