My husband and I currently live in Mobile, AL and are considering moving to Chattanooga. Question is, what is the weather like? Does it get cold in the winter? I'm in the medical field, (insurance billing) how is the job market. Thank you for any input.

Hey Rhonda. Weather is a little unpredictable at times since we are in a valley sort of... I am from Durham and we average a few degrees cooler than NC eastern piedmont area but rain is funky, it doesnt and doesnt but thenwhen it does it really does ...strange. I changed my driving habits since coming here, dont drive inthe rain. odd huh I would not think it would be really big difference between here and mobile, I will look up some newspaper links and post em for ya :-)

weather is temperate - we get a little bit of everything. If you don't like a particular season, don't worry it'll be gone in about 3 months. There are a number of medical facilities here (hospitals, medical centers, etc) so I'm sure there are opportunities.

There are almost no jobs here. If you are smart, you will research the job market here first and very thoroughly. If you can find a job here, please be warned that the wages here are very low, and way below the national averages.

Hi, Rhonda Kay!

My wife and I are empty nesters and have lived here in the Tennessee Valley for over 20 years. We live halfway between Chattanooga and Knoxville - she drives to CHAT for work and I drive up near KNOX. She is in the healthcare field herself and has been a medical manager for more than 20 years. Her specilization is insurance billing and collections! Right now, she supports multiple practices in the area and is the past president of the local medical office manager association. She also serves on the county and state health council. She knows the inside track!

Furthermore, we were both born in Pensacola and she grew up there - plus one of our daughters attended Spring Hill College in Mobile. We know pretty well the differences in the weather. In a few words: IT'S BETTER - milder, less humidity, and no hurricanes!

Jim,

Thank you so much for the information. I work at Alabama Orthopedic Clinic which is just around the corner from Spring Hill College.
The good news is NO HURRICANES....Yippie. We are origionally from OH and moved down her 14 years ago.
We are going to be in Chat on Friday, 11/28 until 12/01. We have been talking to a realtor up there and we just want to come up and check things out. We have 2 houses here that we have on the market, but I don't really look to move before Feb or March.
I would really like to get with your wife regarding possiable employment.
Thank you again.
Rhonda Kay

We may be moving to Chattanooga in a few months. Is there an educated Latino community???? I'm a Spanish teacher in California (bay area) and need to know: What would be my biggest challenge?????
