I am looking to move to Chatt from Maine and have seen some decent houses online, but can't really find much about neighborhoods. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

I have five dogs and getting a neighborhood that is safe and welcoming is really important. I plan on buying and fencing in a yard, not that that matters at this point. Since I don't have human children, schools are not necessarily a concern.

I've found some places in Red Bank and Eastdale that I like. I want "cute", little is okay, off street parking and a yard.

In advance, thanks for any uselful advice and I hope to see you in Chatt soon!

We are thinking of relocating to Tennessee from Pa. We are looking for a large parcel of land at least 40 acres. Great for hunting, secluded yet within driving distance for a hospital, shopping and very important easy access to a biblepreaching church. Are the folks friendly?

Thanks

Well, Red Bank should be right up your alley. There are some CUTE homes there and it has a great family feel to it. Always someone walking their dogs, playing in one of the parks, etc... Close proximity to downtown and a mall. I lived in Red Bank close to Ashland Terrace for quite a few years and we liked it there.

I lived in a small sub-division for a couple of years as a child called Red Bank in Maine and when I started looking at houses is was immediately attracted to that area. I'm waiting to hear on a job at the new McKamey Animal Care Center. Hopefully I'll be down there soon for an interview and looking for a new house!!

Thank you so much.

How neat! Well, there's your sign as they say lol Red Bank is still affordable so I think you should be able to find something you like and not pay and arm and a leg. There are only a few spots I would avoid. Not for safety reasons but you just get the feel that the neighbor's dogs are left to roam the streets and they fix their car in the front yard. I hope you get the job! I have not been to the shelter but I have heard some great things about it. Good luck!

Good luck at McKamey, a3dogmom, and welcome to Chattanooga! The new director was a childhood friend of mine, and she would be great to work for. She is one talented vet too.

Regarding your new neighborhood: Check out the East Ridge area. Dog friendly, affordable housing, safe, lots of Mom & Pop restaurants, antique stores, a neat little bookstore. People bought in East Ridge 50 years ago and they just never moved away. So there are a lot of younger couples and families moving into the area, as the original owners of these homes pass away. Most of the homes are 1950's ranchers and cottages, but some are a bit older. Many of the ranchers are quite cute, and the yards are typically much bigger than those in Red Bank (because the homes are a bit newer). I like Red Bank as well, but there are lots of run-down apartment buildings sandwiched into the neighborhoods.

I've heard only wonderful things about the Director, I'm grateful for just the chance to be part of this shelter.

I'll keep East Ridge in mind, sounds like that and Red Bank are just up my alley (so to speak). Hopefully I'll get the second call back soon and can schedule sometime down there to look around. I'm really excited, keep your fingers crossed.

Since I'm here anyways, where should I NOT even look? I need to make sure we are all safe in our new home.

Thanks so much!

Anne:

We just moved here in February. My husband said to me "if you're sick of hearing this, just tell me, but these are THE NICEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!" So true! Holy smokes, these are the nicest people (exemption: the DMV horrors). From the grocery store bag-boy to the postal carrier to the dental receptionist. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!! The people here are THE BEST! (E-mail me with any new-resident questions. If I don't know, I guarantee you, someone here can help me find the answers!)
