Congrats on the move! I was down there in early June visiting some relatives in northern Alabama. I did a driving tour of Signal Mt. Very nice area. I'm still undecided on where to retire to in a few years....but TN is on the list!

Signal Mountain and Lookout Mountain may also be appealing to you, but may a stretch with that budget.

You could also focus your search east of downtown towards Ooltewah and Collegedale, but your 10-15 minute drive to downtown would be the issue there. As a rule, traffic on I-24 is not great and there is almost always a wreck going down the "Ridge-Cut".

It is a beautiful area. Welcome!
I recently bought a dining room table/chairs from a couple that lived in a detached home in Collegedale. It was in the neighborhood right behind a CCRC down the street from parks and the City Hall. Everything out there is brand new.

I was amazed how nice the Collegedale area was--and just off I-75--before the Ooltewah exit. Everything you need is within a 10 minute drive--with the largest mall in the state just a short distance away.
