We have researched all the sites on hiking, but would like to ask if anyone has a quick recommendation for a cool cabin near Prentice Cooper on the Chattanooga side of the park. Hotels on Signal Mountain as well. When I looked for places to stay, the only real options were in the city of Chattanooga itself. Also any of your favorite hikes. We are tourists.

I don't know how "cool" they are, but:
I think Chattanooga Vacation Home Rentals has a few near Suck Creek Road;
Pot Point Cabin is located farther down the river; technically immediately next to Prentice Cooper, except at the bottom of the escarpment with no way to get to the top. It's also very large.
Then there's Tennessee River Gorge Island Cabin Hales Bar / Nickajack Lake in Chattanooga, Tn Again, technically close to Prentice Cooper, but a long drive. Still closer than a hotel downtown, though.

I found these by going to maps.google.com, zooming to the area of interest, then typing "cabin" into the search bar.

Hikes:
  • Prentice Cooper, of course... and the adjacent section of Cumberland Trail State park heading north across Suck Creek to Signal Mountain. There's a rather large network of trails between Prentice and Signal.
  • If interested in Civil War history there are lots of interesting hikes around Lookout Mountain and Chickamauga Battlefield.
  • Looking farther south, Cloudland Cayon State Park (GA) has some amazing hikes. Lots of waterfalls and even a cave you can explore if you have the proper equipment (or you can rent it). They also have cottages and yurts. You can hike all the way across the mountain if you like distances and exploring: Trail Maps - Lula Lake Land Trust
  • Lula Lake is also fun with a huge waterfall and bluff views, but they're only open first and last weekends of each month.
  • Going back north, there's North Chickamauga Creek, which is another section of the Cumberland Trail (the two sections aren't connected... yet).
