I will be graduating with my RN in December of this year, and my husband works for Us Xpress. I am aware that there is a terminal in Chattanooga. We would need to live within 40 miles of that terminal. Would like a smaller town, outskirts. I have to small children so a better school district would be wonderful. Also, a mental health out patient facility that does injections.(if you don't know what I am talking about, chances are that you don't have Family who has mental health issues). So any information would be great! I am looking to buy a home, but would rent until I can finalize a home. I would like to Thank you in advance For all your help with any information.

The US Express building is at the I-75/Bonny Oaks/Lee Highway/Jenkins Road intersection on the far east side of Chattanooga. It happens to be very near both the Adult and Child/Adolescent campuses for Parkridge Valley. Both are full-service facilities, so I'm sure they do injections.

All schools in the county and cities are administered by the Hamilton County Department of Education. They get the same funding, teachers get the same pay, etc. The only difference between the schools are the 1) affluence of parents, 2) quality of students, and 3) age of facility. So a school in an affluent area with lots of "full time moms/dads" who are able to do lots of volunteer work and are married to wealthy spouses who donate money to the PTA for extras like computers and copy paper will be a "better" school. Students coming from drug/gang-infested areas will cause problems for other students and will result in a lower-quality education for all. Finally, a newer building with better lighting, no lead paint, no asbestos, adequate room for students, etc. will likewise be a "better" school.

Interactive map of HCDE zones.

With those criteria in mind, the better elementary schools in your area of interest would be Ooltewah, Apison, and Westview. All three are fairly new buildings. Westview is in the moderately affluent eastern portion of the East Brainerd area. Ooltewah is a new building pulling from the town of Ooltewah, plus the very rural Harrison and Georgetown areas. Apison is a relatively new building in a rural area in far eastern Hamilton County.

Religious note: Because of the Southern Adventist University, the Collegedale/Apison area is predominantly (but not exclusively) 7th Day Adventist if this type of thing matters to you. The Collegedale zip code (37315) is the only one in the country where weekend mail is delivered on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Other schools:
The East Brainerd Elementary school currently doesn't have the best reputation. It pulls from the western side of East Brainerd which is less affluent, plus it is currently in a very old building. But their new building and new zone opens next August so that reputation may quickly change.
