i have a chance to relocate with my company to a facility in hixson. is that a decent town? should i look for a rental home there or in another nearby area thats better? schools arent an issue. like to rent a sizable house with room for my not-so-old parents and barely adult son between 1000-1500/month. is that possible or should i reconsider the budget and/or area?

Smile Shopping Hub. Rt # 153

..E.: WELCOME. Hixson is sort of the shopping hub on the West side of the lake / river.. Along Rt #153
that runs West & East over the DAm & out to I-75 inter-change.
. Shopping malls there , Home Depot, Lowes, food restaurants, etc.. There may be some supply of rental stuff along the foot of Signal mtn , along the Route #27 , four lane highway..

I've never heard any complaints about Hixson. I looked at a house there when I first moved here 4 years ago, but I didn't buy it. You might want to check out Colonial Shores, it's a great subdivision with larger homes with a community pool and close to the lake. Hixson is very safe and clean, but sometimes has traffic problems on 153, but other than that it is a very desirable area.

You could check out Rossville if you wanted to live on the Ga side.

If you choose Georgia, you will have to pay state income tax.

Hixson is, for the most part, quiet and uneventful. When one hears about all the exciting/awesome things to do in Chattanooga, it's a safe bet that they're not happening here. There aren't many independent restaurants or funky stores either.

That said. It's great place to live and still be close enough to the action. If renting you can find a wide variety of housing options. When buying, it's best to pay attention to which part of town you end up buying. A part of Hixson has been annexed by the City of Chattanooga so you end up paying city taxes in addition to county. Not a big deal to some.

In case you're wondering, I do live in Hixson, and my family and I love it.

ps - if schools aren't an issue you may want to try the neighborhood of Stuart Heights. Considered more North Chattanooga than Hixson, it's a great neighborhood and in between Hixson and Chattanooga.
