We are looking to move to the area and liked the homes in the Greenecroft neighborhood. We were first looking to stay in Albermarle County for the schools but are attracted to the affordability of Greene County and convenience to NGIC. But....the reviews of Greene County Schools (specifically Ruckersville Elementary) are not fabulous. Please let me know if you have any experience with this school or schools in the county. Thanks so much!

I think the ratings are available online. And Albemarle ranks much better than Greene County.

You'll find in Greene County a thriving homeschooling community. There's justification for that (hint hint). In real estate, you more often than not get what you pay for. Still, it's beautiful country and if you like the idea of rural living this is the place. Although with Greencroft so close to 29, it's not so bad getting from A to B. Good luck!

Route 29 is a beast and I would not like to drive it everyday. If there is an accident, the whole road shuts down.

VaNative makes a good point; I've been there myself. It's rare, but happens. Even so, if you become "native" to the area, you soon learn (or at least should learn) the back roads to avoid that occasional happening. You'll find at least one road that more or less parallels 29 from Cville to Greene (and even Madison come to think about it). Adds a few minutes to the drive time, but the scenery's nice and it's better than sitting in traffic.

We live in Greenecroft (hubby is in the Army and works at NGIC) and it's an ok place to be-- the neighbors are phenomenal, but there is a ton of construction going on now that Ryan is developing the bulk of the lots (and will be under construction for quite a while) and I can tell you they are really serious about it (they were digging a foundation at 6:30am on Thanksgiving). We've been here for 18mo, and we are looking to move because of 29. Ruckersville Elem was great for my oldest for kindy (we have 4 kids), but we aren't as thrilled with her homeroom 1st grade experience. We may be leaving C'ville all together, but if my hubby stays at NGIC as a civilian we will be looking into a new area of town with easier access to everything (if we can find it at a price we can pay once we lose the Army's housing allowance)

Albemarle's public schools are largely a little better than Greene's. Greene county has recently started booming as CVille is growing heavily to the north along 29. This is bringing a lot of growth and new diversity to Greene's schools
