So not just Harris Teeter is left uptown.

This ought to be moved to the "businesses closing" thread.

Unfortunately this demonstrates a point I made in that thread. While many people say they will pay extra for better service and products, often there's not enough reality in that statement to support that type of business.

I was visiting last weekend and felt there was not enough groceries around, esp Uptown and in the Myers/Dillworth/Southend areas.. Too bad for Uptown but it may be good for the folks in the south...

That's too bad, we've shopped at Reid's several times - even though we don't live Uptown. Here's hoping they reopen again, as planned, elsewhere!

I never heard of them. Are they just a one store operation?

There is a huge symbolic significance on a number of levels concerning the closing of this particular establishment. It will be interested to see the "spin" that gets spun around it.

File this under the "Reality's around the world, your mama's, Backslap" department.

The problem with Reid's was that it wasn't better, just overpriced. Except for the butcher shop, maybe. With the competition from HT just four blocks away and the new Trader Joe's less than a mile away, there was just no reason to go there.

Harris Teeter is still open. The only full-service grocer left in uptown. But there are many stores Aldi, HT, Food Lion, Trader Joes within a mile or two.

Admittedly I never shopped there. I'd heard many times that they were a premium store with premium goodies. Weren't they in a different location a few years ago? Somewhere between South Blvd and South Tryon?
