I noticed today that Carlyle and Co. Jewelers is closing in Northlake Mall. This is a store that had built a fairly expensive store there with walnut paneling and lots of high end fixtures. This is one of CLT's long term stores. The only luggage store in the mall is having a going out of business sale too.

Stores closing this time of year is a bit unusual as we are heading into what is usually the biggest sales quarter for retail sales. If you can't make it in the 4th quarter then something is wrong. I suspect there is going to be some major carnage in this mall between January and March with this kind of thing going on. Even though this mall is heading into it's 3rd Christmas, there are still significant portions of it that have never been rented out. Lots of blank walls.

Of the Jewelers that remain, there are a lot of "We Buy Gold" signs. I have been told by people more knowledgeable than me that a sign of a good economy is when these signs disappear and are replaced by "We Sell Gold" signs.

I took a quick drive through the New Urbanist mall that is on the NL property. The trendy Zebo home entertainment place has shut down along with a place that sells home fitness equipment. These places have not been open that long.

These threads of yours are becoming awfully redundant and predictable. As I said in your thread about Concord Mills, you'd offer a more credible and "fair and balanced" critic of these places of you'd also talk about the new stores that are opening in these places as well. But as usual, you conveniently leave that information out.

Zebo or Zobotv? It looks like Zobotv has moved to Southpark. Probably more people buying high end home theater systems in South Park than at the Northlake mall.

Yeah, Zobo is a small locally owned operation.

And "FLE", for lumbollo's education, Carlyle & Co is in the process of closing all their stores...

Something like that. Whatever it is called, their big new store at Northlake has had all the glass covered by paper so you can't see inside and it is closed.

A month or so ago the Zobotv website had the Northlake small store closed for renovations. Now it shows they are opening up in Southpark. They probably did some market research and found out the more people in the Southpark area are buying or will be able to buy home theater systems than in the Northlake mall area.

I found Carlyle to be overpriced compared to Diamonds Direct. In any case, news of shops closing is sad. We used to frequent Bailey Banks & Biddle up in CT for my Lladro collection. Seems like a good time to check things out.
