Which is better Mooresville or Huntersville? (Charlotte, Cornelius: houses, neighborhoods, movies)

My husband and I might be relocating to the area in the next couple months. We're trying to decide whether Mooresville or Huntersville would be a better fit for our family.
A little background...
My husband and I are both in our early 30's
We have 3 children under the age of 5
We enjoy the convenience of being within 10 minutes from major grocery stores, retail stores, etc.
We love to have things to do including restaurant options, movies, nightlife, etc.
We currently live in a really small town in NJ where everything is about 15-20 minutes away and it makes life very difficult with little children.
We're looking for a town that offers a lot for adults as well as a great school district, etc. for the kids.
I know, after re-reading this I'm not sure if any city fits my bill but if anyone can offer some incite to either Mooresville and/or Huntersville and which one seems to best fit what we're looking for I'd greatly appreciate the input.
Mooresville is more directly on Lake Norman than Huntersville. Mooresville is more 'country' than Huntersville, as Huntersville is more urban and closer to Charlotte.
Huntersville has more of a night life so to speak and Birkdale Village is in Huntersville which stays open late on weekends.
I live in the Mooresville area but not in the city limits - which means that I don't pay Mooresville City or school taxes. County and fire district taxes in Iredell county are very reasonable. You don't get city water and sewer. Instead you need a septic and a community well which is run by Aqua - a private, state regulated, utility company. I don't have any kids but my neighbors and friends who do have generally positive things to say about the Iredell county schools in Southern Iredell county which are:
Elementary: Mount Mourne, Lakeshore, Lake Norman
Middle: Brawley Middle, Lakeshore
High: Lake Norman High School
Mooresville Graded School District is also very good but you do pay more taxes. Those that I've talked to who have kids in that area have very positive things to say. As for as promixity to shopping, I think the Mooresville is just as good as Huntersville. We have just about everything you need in a 5-10 minute commute (unless you live way down on Brawley School Rd then, depending on traffic, it will take you longer to get to shopping). The area is really self-contained and I rarely have to go to Huntersville or Charlotte. Only thing we don't have that I can think of is a Home Depot - but there is a Lowe's. Huntersville is similiar in that everything you need is really around the Sam Furr Rd exit but we found the area a bit more crowded overall. But the Highway 150 area is no picnic either.
I am from Northern NJ and have lived in this area for the past 14 years - first 10 in Charlotte and the last 4 in the Mooresville area. We don't have to commute either so we're in a similiar situation as you are. My wife and I have commented that, for daily errands, we actually drive much less here than when we lived in Charlotte. I imagine it would be somewhat similiar in Huntersville though and I agree that Huntersville probably has more in terms of adult nightlife if that's what you're looking for.
Bottom line is that you'll probably find things you like about both areas. We had a small lot in Charlotte and wanted some space which is what we found in Iredell county. Houses up here tend to be on 1/3 acre or more because of the septic requirement in many of the neighborhoods. It does lend itself to a more open feeling in general depending on the neighborhood. But there are great neigborhoods in Huntersville as well. For us, it came down to finding the house we liked and lower taxes.

Honestly, out of the 'lake towns', I prefer Davidson and Cornelius.
Huntersville and Mooresville (west of I-77 anyway) are very similar. Mooresville has more stores and restaurants (not that Huntersville is lacking). On the flip side, Huntersville is much closer to Charlotte and all that it has to offer. Both have sticky traffic areas. Also, living in Mooresville means you have to stay on the 2 lane, very congested I-77 for a longer period of time. During the day it is OK, but it can be annoying during rush-hour- especially when there is an accident because there is literally only two roads that go from Mooresville down to Cornelius.
As for nightlife, I would say they are pretty similar there, too. Depending on what you are looking for, you likely have to go into Charlotte as neither town has a whole lot to offer. Cornelius has the better bar options (Midtown Sundries, Rusty Rudder, etc...)
A very big pro with living in the Mooresville Graded School District is that the provide laptops to all students from 4th grade through 12th grade.
They are both very similar really. Mooresville probably has better schools but there are very good schools in Huntersville. One just has to be careful of which areas because there are some bad schools in that area also.
They both have similar shopping and restaurants. Huntersville does have the Birkdale area but it's so crowded on the weekends, it never worth it, at least to me, to go. It's almost impossible to find parking there.
Both places can see heavy traffic in the areas where one will do most shopping and dining.
Huntersville will get you closer to Charlotte which could be big plus if anyone will be or ever thinks they will commute to Charlotte for work. Mooresville is only a few miles up but that few miles turns into a nightmare during rush hour.
Mooresville as a whole has more character IMO than Huntersville. You've got two distinct areas of Mooresville in terms of east and west of I77 which is a plus to me living here.
Just moved to Cornelius which is kind of in the middle of both towns and I like it here a lot.
Lake is great, a number of gorgeous parks, and easy access to Huntersville with Mooresville about 10 minutes away.
