My family and i are looking to move to surrounding areas of charlotte. I have school age children and am really concerned about a good school. I have heard some bad stories about schools in the charlotte area... We are from mi and we like the outdoors country/water, but close to shopping & schools ect. Area must be safe!! Ok, with all that said any info for relocating to this area? Thanks in advance!

Rest assured, there are great schools in the Charlotte- Mecklenburg district as well as the surrounding area. What stories have you heard? Maybe we can give you better feedback if we know what your concerns are. As for an area to recommend, more details will help us help you. When you say surrounding area, how far from Charlotte? What is your budget? What size house and yard? Do you need to be close to shopping?

I've lived in and around Charlotte my whole life. There are great areas and not so great areas. If you want to be in Charlotte, I personnaly love South Charlotte. However, if you prefer the outlying area, I like Harrisburg, Weddington, Waxhaw, Matthews, Concord.

Is there any specific info you are looking for? What you would like to be close to? What type of home/land you want?

The other thing you need to consider is your commute. THings look more accessible on a map than they really are once you get on the highways, LOL!! So you may think that you would want to live in Mooresville but your job is in South Charlotte . . . or your job is in Cornelius and you like Ft. Mill. You really need to take your commute into consideration b/f getting your heart set on an area. You may love Denver . . . but end up hating it b/c of the hassle w/ getting to and from work.

Plus, as others have stated - what is your price range? Homes vary a lot in price depending on where they are located.

All of the Ft. MIll York Co. schools have very high ratings and you could not go wrong there. Be aware that some Ft. Mill addresses are actually in Lancaster Co, which changes the schools.
