Atlanta has become so sprawled out that it takes the average person a total of 34 miles driving to make it to work every day. I know that Charlotte is becoming kind of "overextended" as well, but is it becoming what people look at and scorn about over the ATL?

I know that Charlotte has maintained a lot of it's neighborhood status by keeping the upscale Myers Park, Dilworth, Eastover areas safe from crime and commercialism but a lot of the outskirts of town have become sub-division city!

I am from the sprawling area of Charleston WV, and I have always been in love with the queen city, and despised the area of Atlanta for what it has become, and I don't want to see Charlotte fall into the overextensive nothingness of rows of houses. Is this what it is about to become with it's constant booms of building. Downtown has nearly doubled in the past ten years and it's continuing to grow, but the simple question from a natives point of view. Is Charlotte becoming the next Atlanta?

It probably will because the backwards thinking people here are trying to de-rail the transit system they are building.

Has nothing to do with de-railing the transit system. Our part time city government doesn't know what to do or how to do it.

I hope not. As much time as our officials spend in Atlanta maybe they can fix what Atlanta did wrong

They are trying to work on that with Light Rail, but so many people in the burbs are against it (event though it passed by like 70%, probably mostly inner city people). Only people I personally have encounted bad mouthing of Light Rail lived in the burbs. Just an opinion though!

I hope Charlotte will learn from all the ATL mistakes. I don't think Charlotte wants to be like ATL, Charlotte wants to better than ATL! We all hope so at least!

No, every precinct in the entire county supported the transit tax except for 2 way out on the outskirts.
The most affluent areas of Ballantyne, South Park, and others overshelmingly supported it.

But Charlotte is far from becoming the next Atlanta. Their city population is 400k because everyone wants to live so far out. Charlotte may seem spread out to some coming from somewhere like NYC, but it really isn't.

Charlotte is trying to become "ANY" major city. If you read the Slopserver you will note everyday how exciting Charlotte is becoming.
