We're researching South Charlotte and also areas north like Huntersville.

What we're seeing is a nearly identical property in a South Charlotte area goes for $150 to $200k less in Huntersville. Not River Run, but other places like MacCauley, Stephens Grove, Rosedale, Gilead Ridge a 5-6 bed is under $500k. Sometimes way under $500k. Why is this? Are the schools bad? Area less than desirable?

I'm leaning toward a big gated community with lots of amenities because of the social factor for us, moving from England and needing to make friends easily. The summertime will be when we make friends before school starts, and I want to be in a place we really feel good about that. Fwiw

Thoughts on Huntersville?

I live in the Huntersville Area and orig. from England. That was however 20 years ago that I have moved.

All the places you mentioned in Hunterville are nice. Some neighborhoods are a little nicer than others in my opinion but you will see this when you drive through them. The Huntersville area has/had more farm land for development than S.Charlotte therefore the developers we able to pay less for the land and make the prices of the homes cheaper. As the land gets snatched up the prices of homes are also moving up.

There is a good influx of English in the Huntersville area. The social life here in Charlotte is probably alot different from the social life in the UK. While in England I would go to the pub with my parents until it closed (Dad was a DJ) here that thought would never cross there mind.

Good Luck.

Huntersville does have a few bad areas, particulary some of the older parts of the city. But 95% of Huntersville I dont know of anyplace that would bring or cause your property values to go down. And 95% of the city is basically new anyways. The trend in Huntersville seems to be these 2 story extremely narrow homes particulary off of Gilead and Bud Henderson Rd. These homes are on very small lots of land. Most people you ask would say they are "cute"(I never use that word) houses though, but go for about 130,000-150,000.

Anyways Huntersville is a safe city, has a huge traffic problem like alot of the areas around here though.

Yes, this will be a huge cultural shift (hopefully not so much shock) for us. We will miss pubs tremendously, there is simply no equivalent in the States. My children know nothing of American English. Hopefully we can gradually introduce them to 'pants', not trousers, 'gas', not petrol, etc. I'm sure they'll love '*****'.

It is overwhelming at times, to think about all we are leaving behind in England. We adore living in the UK.

Thanks very much for the Huntsville background and info. Tremendously helpful!

ETA: Sorry, didn't realise an American slang for bottom would be censored.
