Look to stay near Huntersville on I77 or Concord on I85, both north of uptown and you'll be fine

I really like the Red Roof Inn near the airport. I have stayed there 4 or 5 times and my daughter twice. It's easy to find at night, just off I-85. Clean, comfortable, basic (no pool), and friendly employees. There's a Waffle House right next door. I also found it to be quiet. There are working TVs in the room - what more do you want?

I concur with this and Cornelius the Microtel is reasonable in this city , nice safe location with restaurants in walking distance and I would not even be scared to go after dark.
It the only Microtel in the Charlotte area I would recommend due to location on the others.
free wireless

Cornelius, North Carolina Discount Hotel and Budget Travel - Microtel Inn

The motels on Wilkinson may or may not rent by the hour.

So what sort of price range are you looking for, you may be able to get a hotel, with reasonable rates.

Two places that visitors have liked are the LaQuinta on South Tryon@Yorkmont and the Red Roof Inn in Huntersville Exit 23.

There are more upscale motel/hotels around my favorite, Red Roof Inn;can't think of the names off the top of my head, but there are at least 3 others at that spot Don't know about past the I-85 interchange, closer to town, but that area is perfectly safe in the motel/hotal area. Red Roof Inn seems to have mostly families and commercial travelers (judging by the small trucks/vans).
PS I lived in New Orleans and outside Memphis and I know a scetchy area when I see one.

Alot of the Uptown hotels will run weekend rates and such. What rate are you trying to stay within...and are you visiting during the week or on a weekend?
