Oh, and I was hired for one school (10 miles away) in April and told on Aug 16th that I would be reporting to a school 20 miles away instead. I tried to protest and was told "you signed up for the program, not the school site. You don't have a choice."

Yes, it has been a hard road for me.

14 months ago I turned in my degrees and credentials. NC has still not given me my credentials here nor have they given me credit for my years of service or my two MAs. There has been glitch upon glitch, all on the NC side of things. They assure me I will get back pay and credit once it all goes through, but after 14 months I am a bit sour about the whole thing.

Teaching isn't bad....the kids are great, the other teachers are great, the administration left little to complain about....but the pay stinks, the hours stink, the workload is more than many other places, and the benefits are terrible.

There are many teachers who move here, work for a year or two, and then move back. There is a reason for that.

Dawn, I have to apologize for my late night attempt at a humor - in the light of day I can see how that could have offended you and I'm so sorry! Truly no offense was intended.

I know you aren't happy here and I hate that you must feel so stuck - I can only imagine being in that kind of situation. The folks I know here who have taught long term aren't happy with leadership on the higher levels, but they all love their schools and principals. I haven't known any to throw in the towel and leave to do other things, but you have so I can respect that it must be happening in some situations.

Don't really have much to compare CMS schools to. I like it. Actually I love it. I never ever ever ever ever stay at work past 3p unless I want to or waiting to be picked up and even then I'll go to the nearest park and wait. I don't take take my work home and refuse to do so, but as lead teacher I give my ALL the entire 8 hours I'm at work and everyone knows it.
BUT I have seen others stay until 10p, or waking up at 4a for work stuff. It depends on the person. I have a great time.

I have typed this several times, but decided to just delete it. I really don't want much posted publicly about the situation I was in. There were several of us who left.

As for the OP: I don't know how CMS is, but in UCPS, there is no testing coordinator at the schools, so during testing, counselors end up staying very long hours. Teachers typically only have to stay 30 min. after school gets out.

Thanks for the apology.

Just so you know, I have in NO way thrown in the towel. I left for a variety of reasons and will return when the right situation arises and all of my children are school age.

Here's my experience - Teaching outside of CMS
7:45 kids start showing up at the doors - oops cannot be late Staff must tend to car rider kids
Mandatory Breakfast Duty for specials teachers
usual school day
Lunch Time - Sometimes teacher have to eat lunch with their kids (no break for them)
This kinda stinks, especially since the schools may have their microwaves and fridges in different buildings - must figure out how to heat food and go to bathroom, while tending to kids.
3:15 - Kids go to bus - teacher delivers kids to bus.
Teacher returns and gets ready for next day -

There are open houses, parent teacher conferences, step up night, science fairs, title one reading nights, musical programs, etc all that require the teachers presence and to work above and beyond thier hours.

So, this is a job you gotta love or you'll be miserable.

This is my two cents from what I've experienced.

I am from NY where I can't imagine anything like this. Does anyone have any info on this. What are the facts?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!
