I currently live in Phoenix and my family and I are considering relocating to Charlotte. We are weary of the big city and want to have another child (in addition to our 17 year old). I am looking at getting a job in IT (security and compliance) and want to know what neighborhoods people from the area recommend. I would prefer a large lot (> .3 acre), 2000+sq ft., mature trees and landscape. I do not mind a commute of 30-45 minutes and do not need to live right in the city. I want a place I can feel safe with a small child riding a bike on the street and people in the neighborhood are friendly and welcoming. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
Wynfield in huntersville has lots of lots that size and houses - Huntersville was named one of the best cities to live in... I personally like Macaulay, Birkdale, the hamptons, and northstone - but all have great schools and the area is booming - plus the lake (lake Norman) is minutes away. go to carolinahome.com search areas 9 and 1 to see these neighborhoods - good luck in your search!
We've lived in many area's of Charlotte and love Ballantyne the most. I don't know what your price range is so I can't really recommend neighborhoods. They very from about $275k to over a million. The zip has the best performing schools in the city.
On my side of town, consider Beverly Crest, Sardis Plantation, Willowmere, Thornblade, Matthews Plantation, Beverly Woods, Olde Providence, Wessex Square, Raintree for starters (Mecklenburg County south/southeast)
In Union County, consider The Reserve, Somerset, Hunter Oaks, Price Mill, Brook Valley, Brandon Oaks, Willowbrook, Madison Ridge, Shannamara...
On the SW side of town I highly recommend Waterlyn - it's off of Shoptron rd. West and 160 Steele Creek. I love this side of town, close to absolutely everything but still feels a little "rural". We bought a Regent Home in this subdivision and the builder has been outstanding. 2800 sq. feet loaded for $206k. Great bang for the buck, and I feel safe letting my kids ride bikes outside all day long.
