Work in Gastonia, coming from overpriced California housing market so housing cost is not a concern. Priorities-
Good middle/high schools
Good childrens sports clubs - soccer, basketball, little league
shopping/restaurants
Resale of house

Looking at 3500+ sq, half acre or so.

Read some good stuff about Fort Mill, SC but no clue really....

Thanks for your help

York County area is nice. Huntersville could be an option as well. John Weiland has nice homes in a new community called Olmsted. Would be happy to help you out in any way that I can. Possibly Denver area as well?

Gaston county gets a bad rap sometimes but you should be able to find what you are looking for. Try Belmont. It's right outside Gastonia so you would have a short commute. You may also want to look at homes in Southeastern Gastonia (Forestview High School district) and in Cramerton (Cramer Mountain).

Default 30-40 minute commute is okay

I Dont mind a decent commute...just as long as its not too rural and boring.

Needs to have some decent shops, stores, gyms, etc.

NCGirl's post is correct. Belmont probably would be the best fit. It's up and coming, the schools are good, there's development everywhere, your home would gain value, and Charlotte's only across the river. Since you're working in Gastonia, the commute would be beautiful (but then again, coming from where you come from, any commute would probably be beautiful to you, lol)...Gastonia's okay as it has shopping and all that good stuff, but the schools are good only in certain areas. Good luck!

Default California to Charlotte

I moved from Marin County and found that the town of Lake Wylie (13 miles south of Gastonia) met all of my needs. It enjoys extremely reasonable taxes, highly rated school system, and a number of subdivisions that would meet your needs. I have sold 2 previous primary residences and was very happy with the appreciation rate in the area (caveat: the current market situation does not guarantee anything). It is convenient to shopping, Charlotte, and the airport. There are also very good restaurants within a short distance. If I can offer any further information, please feel free to PM me.

Belmont, Cramerton & areas of Gastonia are all very nice. Then right over the border is Clover, SC.

Check out DENVER. Its right up the way from Gastonia and you get to be on or near the Lake. Property values always do well when you are on or viewing Lake Norman. It's beautiful on the west end of Lake Norman and alot more spread out. You could land a 3500sqft home on over an acre easily.
