Can anyone give advice on selecting a very good neighborhood that has a good ethnic diversity? looking to spend $300-$400 for home. Thanks!

All of them in that price range. The financially starving areas or poorer neighborhoods are most likely to have the least diversity. So, as we always say in Charlotte, the only color that matters here is green and there are no segregated parts of town. More important things to ask are: schools? job location? interests? These are things you should consider in Charlotte or surrounding areas. You will find diversity in any middle class neighborhood.

I would say that the neighborhoods around the University are the most ethnically and racially diverse. If you go out to University Place on a weekend night, you will see a much more diverse crowd than if you go to South Park, Ballantyne or Carolina Place. This is one of the reasons that I personally enjoy going out there even though there are fewer shops and restaurants that I like.

You also said the "best" neighborhood. I couldn't possibly make a judgment about that. I'd prefer to live near uptown in either Dilworth, Plaza-Midwood or Elizabeth, but I have doubts about their ethnic and racial diversity. I don't know if you can find it all in one neighborhood.
