Like always thanks for taking time out and helping/responding with my queries... I am looking for a reliable local contractor who can help us remodel the whole kitchen - we are looking to gut the existing kitchen and re-do the whole space (including putting in a new exhaust hood venting out of the kitchen).
We did call Bob Duffy @ 704/ 577.6217 - but no luck. I have left him messages but none have been returned.
Any pointer on this is highly appreciated. Thanks again!
Regards,
Poppi

Not sure where you are located, but if you are more towards the south of Charlotte there is a guy in Waxhaw that is very good. We had him do some work for us and was very satisfied. He also showed us a project where he turned an unfinished basement into a small apartment including a kitchen and full bath, all beautiful.

What goes around comes around david Dunn! Hahaha! Unfortunately the downside to Charlotte's booming growth is the familiarity of the story above. It's hard to find a reputable GC for small projects today. I recommend sourcing good contacts through NextDoor.com from neighbors you trust.
You want help remodeling the kitchen or do you want someone to remodel it for you? Most contractors won't want the client swinging a hammer alongside him.
If there's no structural change to be made, you might find someone at CPCC or UNCC school of architecture (a student?) to help you with measurements and installing cabinetry.
For cabinetry, take a look at Habitat for Humanity. Bring in dimensions, and the designer will give you a price for custom cabinets and counters. The cherry looks particularly nice (though spartan), and it is inexpensive. HfH doesn't install, but you can probably get a referral.
If there are any changes that affect electrical circuitry, plumbing, or structural support, you'll need a building permit. From conversations with contractors and folks in Code Enforcement, I gather that the cityhas fluid rules governing renovation on small jobs. Google Mecklenburg Building Code Enforcement for more info in this area.
