I noticed on our recent visit there, that several developments had very noticable power lines running through them. Has there ever been problems with them (being stuck by lightning or anything).

In FL we have (atleast in my development) underground powerlines, so when I saw so many in SC, they were very noticable to me and in my opinion took away from some of the beautiful developments. (Not that that would discourage us enough from moving there though )

Isn't that strange? Iwas used to underground lines when we moved down, too. Duke Power has just never gone to the expense of burying the lines here.

I've been here for 13+ years and have never heard of a major lightning strike on a line. The biggest problem is ice storms bringing tree branches down on the power lines. In a big ice storm it can take the power companies a while to get the lines back up. But it's not typically below freezing every day so living without heat for a day or so is not as bad as it would be up North.

At any rate that tends to happen in the more established neighborhoods where the lines run right through the trees. The newer developments where you see the big cleared paths for the towers don't have that problem generally - because they cleared the trees to make way for the towers and the lines.
