I currently live in NYC, I have plans to move since I am now looking for a more relaxed life style. I have heard good things about both states. I would like to know if anyone could put some light to my confusion. I am a native New Yorker, So I don't want to get rid of the total city life; but I do want a little more peaceful life. I have a friend in Plano, and she is very eager that I try Texas. I would really want to try because I hear that the job market in Texas is good; but then I think of the heat and that kind of scares me. I am tired of living in NY because the rent is so expensive. I love NY; but it seems that if you don't have a good income you are just living to pay rent and bills.
Hope that someone can help me, since I have plans to make the move by next summer.
Being in Dallas would put you closer to a much larger metro and city for that life you want. Either place you end up, be ready for culture shock, as the south is so much different than NYC. Dallas is more remote than Charlotte, obviously, as Charlotte is closer to the population centers of the east coast. Overall, you can't go wrong with either place, but for that BIG city atmosphere, Dallas would have more of it. I actually plan to move to the Dallas area in a few years. Good luck.
I've heard a lot of good things about the overall economy in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area. I can't say the same for Charlotte. I've been to New York numerous times but never Dallas so I can't compare the two. I can say that moving from New York to Charlotte will be a huge transition. I strongly suggest visiting the area for an extended time to get a feel for it. I understand that you want a slower pace of life, just make sure you know what you are getting. You can save a ton of money in living expenses but there is a tradeoff in terms of diversity, culture, nightlife, etc... Plano will give you easy access to Dallas which is a huge city. Ironically I've been thinking about making a trip out to Dallas myself to do a little exploring.
I disagree with everyone! I went to plano and although it was nice, i think Charlotte is sooo much nicer! Not a fan of Dallas....
