Don’t just go to some “NASCAR” shop in a mall. Go to as many race shops as you can. Lowe’s has a nice gift shop at the track and they have maps to the race shops. Hendrick is just around the corner from Lowe’s, most are within 20 miles or so of the speedway. Most of them have big gift shops and you can see them working on the cars in the shop. Make sure you go by DEI, to see the #8 Budweiser car it will be your last chance.
I believe Michael Waltrip's shop is off I-77 north, exit 30 (Davidson). Ive heard that he is frequently in the shop, and will actually take time out to speak to the fans. Wood Brothers racing is on 49, just inside Harrisburg. They're also pretty open, and it's not at all uncommon to see the drivers in and around the shop. Expect that the more popular shops (Hendrick, DEI) will be REALLY crowded, and I can almost guarantee zero probability of seeing the drivers mingling with the fans. Good luck, and enjoy the race!!

I believe Michael Waltrip's shop is off of exit 28 in Cornelius? Race World USA?
The only race shop that I had to pay for anything was RCR in Welcome, NC. The shop and gift shop were no cost, but he has a museum that costs $10.00 and it has Dale Sr.’s cars and a bunch of other stuff. Well worth the $10.
Thanks for that information. I can certainly understand that cost and would agree it would be well worth that charge. As a rule, from my understanding, it is not unusual for a charge to go through the museums but not to go through the race car shops. I think Waltrip charges $15.00 a person to go through the race car shop. I have not personally been there so I can't say for sure...it's just what I have heard.

Does Waltrip pay you to go through his shop?
