There were three large military looking airplanes circling all afternoon today (Sunday 7/15). Anybody else see this going on? What's the deal? They were circling the area for hours! Very interesting to watch, but I don't know the explanation.
Maybe some sort of training or practice drills. They were in a triangle formation the whole time. I thought maybe it was for an air show but after a couple hours I figured that was not the case.
Did they have a service for one of the airmen killed in South Dakota recently?
It was on the 10th. It's on their website. Burials, as suggested in another post, may have been today. But I have seen this same routing of planes in the past.
I recall hearing on the news that there was a burial (or burials) today for C-130 crew members that died fighting fires in SD. Maybe the military planes were connected with this.
A funeral service may be the reason but we here in Union County are subject to see military planes training at lower than usual flight levels almost any time. We are part of the training area for the military. Usually what we see are the black helicopters but I have seen low flying bombers and other aircraft on training missions. The first time it happened after we moved here, it scared me; but I just take it as normal anymore.
It doesn't happen very often, but when it does happen, everybody knows it. About the only complaints I have heard is from the farmers that have their animals frightened. I love to see the planes fly low.
I saw them also in waxhaw it was strange they were flying all over for hours
