As reported in the Charlotte Observer today, Charlotte, in spite of its high unemployment and banking troubles, still ranks as one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. While I no longer live there (but would love to move back!) it comes as no surprise to me that this is the case.

Of course, this article and the stats will be interpreted in different ways by different people. However, the truth remains that, for many, it is still a wonderful place.

It is down if you look by year; May 2011 was at 10.6% to May 2012's 9.6%

This article is more detailed.

What should be disturbing however is the number of "employed" is falling.

I'm glad to see Charlotte is booming despite the challenges. The unemployment id a huge concern, although I wonder of the high numerical growth is a reason for the unemployment not dripping as fast. Perhaps some are still moving here without a job and hoping too find one. At any rate, to have still add one 19k is quite impressive.
