Can anyone give me their opinion on the commute time from the Concord area to Salisbury? Is the 85 a nightmare too? I mapped it to my location and it says 33 minutes, but what's the traffic like? Anyone know?

Back when we lived in Concord, and I commuted to Salisbury, I traveled 23 miles from home to my workplace. I always allowed 45 minutes for the drive. I-85 traffic is always busy in that corridor and, if it is flowing smoothly, it's not a bad drive. However, there always seems to be at least one accident a week along that stretch, which makes traffic back up very quickly. Higway 29 is an alternate 4-lane route, but the speed limit is lower because of the residential/commercial parcels along the route, and you will hit stoplights along the way.

Oh ok, I actually have 6 more miles to go before I get to the 85, then I would get off exit 75 and then go 3 more miles. So it would probably be the same as if I worked in S Charlotte, maybe not as messy.

Thanks Silverwing. 3 points for ya!!

Exit 75 is the Jake Alexander exit. Are you going left or right off there? Reason I ask is because JA is the main drag for town, and getting off at exit 75 and turning left will put you in a lot of traffic. I would suggest getting off at exit 74. You still have traffic, but at least it shaves off a bit of the congestion you would encounter going past the gas stations, restaurants and car dealerships. Rush hours, when the Food Lion employees are going to/getting off work make the traffic pretty bad on JA, and the road is also sort of a short cut for truckers traveling on I-40 who want to get to I-85. They get off at highway 70 in Statesville, come down to Salisbury, hang a right at JA (nasty spot. I've seen truckers make such a wide turn they practically skim the median. one fellow took the turn too fast and actually tipped his truck over at that spot) and pick up 85 north at exit 75.

Not saying this to scare ya, or anything, and it's only about 1/100 as bad as Charlotte traffic, just be prepared for a busy road during the day.

Actually I would be going to Food Lion Corporate, The company I work for now is in talks with Food Lion for an upcoming merger. Our corporate would most likely close here in Phoenix and all the jobs may be sent to Salisbury.
