My husband and I would like to join a country club in Charlotte. We've been here for 7 years, but never looked into country clubs till now. We will definitely want to play golf, but we also have three young children and will want to choose a club that has a nice pool, golf team, and activities for kids. Can anyone give recommendations on which clubs are most family friendly and the least "snooty"? We want to join for the golf, activities, and socializing, not to impress anyone.

I know it's probably private information, but info on initiation fees would be great too. BTW, we live in Ballantyne and would want to choose one close to home. However, I know that Ballantyne Country Club's initiation fee is $26,000 non-refundable or $46,000 refundable, which is just a little steep if there are other options.

I am sure there are few that people will recomend, I am partial to Providence Country Club.
Great pool, easy going crowd, and not over priced.

Ballantyne is the cheapest compared to Carmel, Quail, Myers Park etc. Ballantyne CC has much better facilities than Providence C. C

From the other side of the table (I bartended & waited tables at several country clubs here, via a staffing agency), I can tell you Ballantyne has a very active kids' program, and most members are not snooty. They always have events going on for their members.

I really enjoyed Carmel & Raintree Country Clubs. Carmel's a little more "high end" than Raintree, but both have some wonderful folks as members.

Check out Cedarwood, Raintree, Piper Glen, if those arent good enogh then I would go for Carmel:they dont assess the members and it is one of the best clubs in Charlotte.
