Do not let people scare you. There are always good and bad schools everywhere you go, same with teachers. I am an elementary school teacher in the Charlotte area. If you want your children to go to a school in Charlotte I suggest Myer's Park or Pineville. South Carolina is much cheaper, Fort Mill is a great place. Close to Fort Mill is Tega Cay and Gold Hill. I have heard that Fort Mill school district is one of the best. There is a nice neighbord going up there now called Whittley Mills, there is one in Tega Cay called The Reserve at Gold Hill. Housing in Charlotte is much more expensive. Usually about $100,000 more then in SC. Good luck.

Smile still searching

Thanks to everyone who replied!! I finally was able to go down last weekend and it was really nice to see first hand these places I may be moving to. I actually feel like South Carolina is a better fit. South Charlotte was very busy and I am a country girl. I was really looking for a unique, fun place that will cushion the move for myself and children. We will be driving solo and so I want a place that we can stay busy and make friends fast!! Tega Cay looked like just the place. I like the little beach area and the fact that there were kids with their families every night we drove by playing sports! I like that it is a different terrain than here in "flat" Michigan. I just think it would be something different and fun. I still haven't ruled out Fort Mill and am looking at maybe Clover as well. I would love any advice or experiences that anyone has on these areas. Thanks again! As far as the schools go, I am in a pretty rural area and we have fairly small schools, so I didn't want a huge crowded school district but I would , if that meant a better education because in the end that is all that matters!

hey there new2carolina: I happen to live in Tega Cay (close to 3 years now) if you have questions feel free to ask away. I am also very familiar with Fort Mill and the Fort Mill school district, along with surrounding areas (York County).

p.s. glad you liked what you saw..
