Sunny, this is very good news. Here's the story from the Shelby Star, which paints a very different picture. Bell South to build 900,000 sq ft data center | center, data, south - The Star Online : The Newspaper of Cleveland County

TV coverage of this was abysmal.

One thing that I should mention is that, prior to the announcement, we heard that this would be 900K square feet on either 100 or 130 acres. According to the Shelby Star article, the 200 million dollar facility is the 1st phase of the data center.

The City of Kings Mountain has annexed that area, at the request of T5, the owner. That explains some weird wording in the Observer article.

This is the 3rd big name data center to go into that area. There is another industrial parh within about half a mile that has the Duke training facility & a call center belonging to Merck.

These data centers don't fix the unemployment situation, but they replace lost rateables & it's hoped that a cluster of facilities belonging to big name companies will help to lure facilities that are better job producers.

The Wipro/Infocrossing data center is currently hiring. The Disney data center is still being constructed. A shell was also constructed for lease, but if someone comes in & wants to buy it, chances are that T5 will sell it & build another.

Kings Mountain also has one or two industrial parks in Gaston County.

the one problem with these type of new jobs is they usually pay wages that are difficult to live on.

The wages for the 1st two were published. I don't remember what they were off the top of my head, but they were cokmparable to what a South Jersey wage would pay for comparable work.

Wipro/Infocrossing is hiring now. Find Jobs on CareerBuilder.com
