Just moved here from PA. Is there anywhere near Gastonia to take the dogs for a swim or a place to fish?

we used to go to a park just south of Gastonia
N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: Crowders Mountain State Park - Activities

Crowders Mtn...small pond and we would walk with our dogs and I used to see people fishing. Not sure how good the fishing is but we liked how it was quiet and not crowded!
