Hey guys this is my first time going to Vegas. I wanted to know any tips for buying airline tickets. What sites to use and not to use. What airlines to take out of Charlotte and what not to take. Also anything I should know about vegas!
I leave August 10th of this year if that helps...
Thanks!

The USAir direct flights are of course the fastest but connecting with Delta or American can save you some cash. Just keep in mind teh trip back is rough if you have a 4 hr layover.
Direct flight is well worth the money....start checking 3 months beforehand...goto sites like travelocity/cheaptickets dot com for starters...taylor your times you want to fly out and arrive...
Are you just going to gamble? Take in a show? Hoover Dam?...
It's been a while since I went, but here's a few pointers, in no particular order:
1. It's hot (a desert in August). Drink plenty of water especially if you're going to be outside.
2. Hoover dam is less than an hour away. Go on a dam tour, take some dam pics.
3. When someone says "it's just past that hotel" that means it's 20 minutes away. Everything is bigger than it looks. This becomes a much bigger issue when it's 105 degrees.
4. The Roller Coaster (that's what it's called) at New York New York is a lot of fun. I prefer it at night.
5. The Ellis Island Casino, next the The World's Largest Super 8 motel, has an excellent steak and eggs breakfast, and it's cheap.
6. Pietro's Italian restaurant, just off the strip, has excellent food.
7. Check out some shows. I've seen Blue Man Group and Circue du Soleil ("O") out there and I'd go see them again. I think there are several CdS shows based in Vegas now.
8. If you like to gamble, have fun. But keep in mind that it's 24/7 in LV, so pace yourself. And it's everywhere, including when you step off the plane at McCarran airport.
9. Take some time and check out the major hotels. There's so much to see, and if you enjoy people watching like i do, there's a never ending supply of characters. I enjoyed seeing things I'd heard about the firts time I went, and now that I've been several times, I enjoy reliving my trips when I see LV on TV or in movies.
10. Most of what you hear about LV is the Strip and the area around it. But downtown LV is where it all started, and it's worth an evening to go see it under the lighted canopy.
11. Golf. Blah blah blah golf. Why anyone wants to spend hours in 100+ degrees and direct sunlight playing golf is beyond me, but I'm not a golfer.
That's it for now. If I think of anything else I'll post up.
I was just there less than a month ago. It too was my first time there. I like to gamble a bit but honestly I really did not think it was all that great. Some people love it but I found it just wasn't for me. If you walk the strip at night be prepared to have hookers approach you. And ugly ones at that. I even was approached by one of these "ladies" around 7 am one morning in the hotel lobby (MGM grand). She had gold freaking teeth, kind looked like flavor flav. The biggest disappointment was the cost of everything! A beer on the street was 7 to 8 dollars. I bought 1 beer and 2 mixed drinks in front of treasure island and that set me back $34. I will not be going back anytime soon. But like said some people like it just wasn't for me.
I travel a ton and was just in Vegas a few weeks ago for vacation, and again in 2 weeks for work. I ALWAYS use KAYAK - Cheap Flights, Hotels, Airline Tickets, Cheap Tickets, Cheap Travel Deals - Compare Hundreds of Travel Sites At Once to search for flights, because it searches basically every site out there and gives you comprehensive results of all the prices. It also has some great features like the individual sites themselves do not have - like the ability to choose a range of departure and landing times, how many connections you want to make, what airlines you want to limit your search to, how short or long you want to make the limits for your connection (nothing like a 1-mile sprint in the Houston airport to try and make a 32-minute connection), whether or not you want to consider flying into a nearby airport, and more. It's an incredibly dynamic flight search tool that saves me time and money every time I use it.

Yes. The mixed drink prices are high unless you hit up a place during happy hour. We bought liquor at the ABC store and save a ton of money making drinks....
